Chapbook Update 22: Elizabeth S. Wolf

Gary Farlow sent in a collection of love poems from North Carolina. Mr. Farlow is a classically trained poet, with an impressive acknowledgements page of prior publications. My comment on this page is: “I have taken workshops which didn’t use repetition this effectively.”

Wild Horses

A team of wild horses

          could not drag me away from you;

It makes no difference

          what you say or do;

my love cannot be stifled

          I hope you know this to be true,

for a team of wild horses

          cannot drag me away from you.

A team of wild horses

          cannot match the awesome power;

of my love for you

          which only grows stronger by each hour.

You my love are the rain

          and I, your thirsty flower.

No, a team of wild horses

          simply cannot match your power.

A team of wild horses

          can never match your grace,

or the majestic beauty

          of your dimpled smile, your face;

when you are near

          there is no sadness, not one trace.

For a team of wild horses

          can never hope to equal your grace.

Yes, you are my stallion,

          my Equas, my Pinchon

upon your strength, your love

          I place my very life upon.

A team of wild horses

          may run strong and true,

but no power exists in nature

          that can take me away from you.
