Ready to volunteer with Prisoner Express?
Join us in our mission to provide connection, healing, and education to incarcerated people across the U.S.!

Each week, we receive hundreds of heartfelt journals, poems, and drawings from people in the prison system, and they all tell us the same thing — getting a friendly letter in response is as good as gold.
How to volunteer in-person
Drop by the Durland Alternatives Library any weekday from 5-7pm when school is in session. A friendly staff member will teach you how to choose and respond to a prisoner’s letter. Once you’ve been trained, you can come in any time, sip on some complementary tea, and write letters for a long as you like!
Note: The parking lot behind our building is free after 5pm!
How to volunteer remotely
Unable to come to the library? No problem!
We keep an active archive of artwork and writing from prisoners on our website. You can write response letters from the comfort of your home. Simply visit our Online Volunteer Guide and follow the steps to get started!
How to volunteer as a group
We’re always happy to work with community groups and student organizations who are interested in volunteering as a group. Please contact us to set up a group training, or to schedule a meeting to discuss other types of projects.
Have questions? Please get in touch! You can reach us via email at prisonerexpress@gmail.com or by phone at 607-255-6486.
