Volunteer with Prisoner Express

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Prisoner Express! Even a small effort on your part yields great rewards for incarcerated individuals. And the benefit is mutual -- volunteers find more meaning in their own lives through their efforts in assisting others.

You can volunteer in person or remotely. Read on for more info!

Volunteer In Person

You can help out right here in the Durland Alternatives Library. Every day, volunteers respond to handwritten letters from prisoners, wrap packages of books, type essays for the newsletter, and more. (Plus we have lots of great books, and free tea and coffee!)

To learn more, fill out the volunteer registration form below, or just stop by!

Volunteer Remotely

The Prisoner Express Online Archive is full of wonderful writing and artwork waiting for your kind response! Our training guide will teach you how to write and mail an encouraging letter to someone in prison.

Special Projects

There are many ways to be involved, both short- and long-term. If you're looking for a longer-term project and have a specific interest or specialization, we'd love to talk with you!

Working alongside Prisoner Express, volunteers have created programs on...

  • - Climate Change
  • - Meditation & Spirituality
  • - Frogs
  • - Screenwriting
  • - and more! Browse a sampling of programs on our website.

We look forward to hearing your ideas!
